Spotlight

Serendipity - Experimental Sessions

Mit Inside the Baxter Building habe ich zwischen Juni und November 2018 13 interdisziplinäre Performances in Basel, Bern und Solothurn gespielt. Weil wir die gemeinsame Inspiration der Filmaufnahmen von 2015 wieder aufleben lassen wollten, haben wir in jeder Stadt die Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Kunstschaffenden gesucht. In Basel waren es Ipek Füsun, Michel Winterberg, Silvia Studerus und Andrea Willener, in Bern Gamelle, Caroline Schenk und als Gast noch einmal Ipek Füsun und in Solothurn Flo Kaufmann, Yves Lavoyer und Ani Kaufmann.

In diesen 13 Performances erforschten wir die gegenseitige Inspiration zwischen bewegten Künsten. Inspiriert wurden wir auch stark durch die Lokalitäten, an denen wir auftraten. Die Alte Synagoge in Basel/Hegenheim entfaltete dank seiner bewegten Geschichte mit sakraler Ver-gangenheit und Gefängnis für Kriegsgefangene eine enorm starke Wirkung auf uns, die Dampf-zentrale Bern bot mit ihrer umfangreichen Veranstaltungstechnik beste Voraussetzungen für unsere Ideen und im Künstlerhaus S11 in Solothurn konnten wir eine Klanginstallation über 4 Stöcke aufbauen.

Earth-Heaven-Space Tour 2018

2018 führte uns die Fischermanns Tour nach Bolivien. Wir hatten die Ehre, das Internatinale Jazzfestival in La Paz "FestiJazz" eröffnen zu dürfen. Danach tourten wir 2 Wochen durch Boliven und Kolumbien.

Serendipity 2017

Nach langer Vorarbeit konnten wir mit Inside the Baxter Building im Mai 2017 endlich unsere transdisziplinäre Arbeit Serendipity präsentieren. Wir kombinierten in dieser Arbeit Werke vom Eisenplastiker Gamelle, dem Holzschnittkünstler Andreas Wiesmann und der Performance-Künstlerin Marea Hildebrand mit unserer Musik. Der japanische Filmemacher Kohei Yamaguchi hat das ganze gefilmt, hier gehts zu Trailer zu dieser Arbeit.

Album Release Tour 2016

Mit Inside the Baxter Building spielten wir im April 2016 eine Tour um unser Album Seldom Somber dem Publikum in der Schweiz, in Deutschland, Österreich und der Slowakei vorzustellen. Der Fotograf uns Filmemacher Steven Vit hat uns dabei begleitet.

jazzahead!2015 in Bremen

Das Fischermanns Orchestra wurde ausgewählt, um im Frühjahr 2015 an der Jazzmesse jazzahead! in Bremen einen Showcase zu spielen. Wir hatten die Möglichkeit, unsere Musik einem Fachpublikum vorzustellen, und erhielten begeisterte Reaktionen und Standing Ovations für unser Konzert. Mit von der Partie war auch das Kulturfernsehen ARTE, welches das Konzert live ausstrahlte.

Laborkonzerte #1-#3

Mit der Band Inside the Baxter Building spielten wir im ersten Halbjahr 2015 drei Labor-Konzerte im „Der Hauptsitz“ in Bern. Jedes dieser drei Konzerte bot die Präsentation eines experimentes, das wir zum ersten Mal aufführten und quasi unter Laborbedingungen dem Publikum vorstellten. Labor #1 beinhaltete die Vertonung einer Reihe von graphischen Kompositionen, im Labor #2 präsentierten wir die Installation „Le Tableau Vivant“ von Fabian Gutscher (siehe Fotostrecke) und in Labor #3 begaben wir uns in einen interaktiven Austausch mit dem Berner Schriftsteller Emanuel Bundi.

Jazzpreis Luzern 2014

Im März 2014 wurde das Fischermanns Orchestra für seine fortwährende Konzerttätigkeit und seinen Tatendrang mit dem auf 10'000 CHF dotierten Jazzpreis Luzern ausgezeichnet.

Colombia Tour 2013

Mit dem Fischermanns Orchestra unternahmen wir 2013 eine Tournee nach Kolumbien. Während drei Wochen spielten wir 16 Konzerte in den beiden Millionen-Städten Bogotá und Medellín, gaben 6 Workshops an lokalen Musikschulen und Universitäten, nahmen die CD „Colombia“ auf und waren 2x im Fernsehstudio.

Ich habe während der Tour einen Blog geschrieben, der unsere Reise detailliert dokumentierte.

The music of the 16-piece Fischermanns Orchestra, presented on (2), frequently has an urgent and strident quality. Its sparse documentation lists no composers or arrangers, but does specify conductors, with Samuel Blatter serving as conductor for seven of the nine selections. Guitarist Jan Trosch is listed as conductor on the two other pieces, while bass clarinetist/clarinetist Philipp Z’Rotz is co-conductor on one selection. Since the CD is entitled “Conducting Sessions,” it is likely that these conductors provide a strong influence on the largely avant garde music presented here. The orchestra consists of five brass players (including two on low brass), four reeds, and seven rhythm players (including four on percussion instruments).

Wildfang ist das dritte Album des Fischermanns Orchestra, erschienen 2013

review

Second album from this swiss avant garde-big band, and this one is stronger, more consistent and thrilling than their debut. Among its treats are, an intro on kalimbas, a wild dobro solo, a theremin passage, Latin rhythms, plus very fine energy and highly respectable ensemble playing. The music grooves and is easy to listen to. It’s a big band take on L’Orkestre des pas perdus. Recommended.

Space Friction

A space that is certainly not smooth to traverse, which is reflected extremely productively in the current album Space Friction. The frictions in this Swiss collective are already positively laid out according to the line-up and conception: On the one hand, the large brass section with timpani and snare in the manner of a marching band straight out of NOLA, plus a classic rock trio with electric guitar and electric bass, occasional bizarre vocal interludes and digital and analog noise.

Syncopated bliss meets beat change madness, a counter-chorus brass line-up in call-and-response, in-between washed-out big band patterns, garnished with stylish post-bop improvisations and refreshingly weightless outbursts into the open. Compositions and arrangements potentially go back to all participants. A cosmos of sound, spanned between Zappa and Sun Ra, which constantly expands.

WolfWolf & the Tuzemak Orchestra

WolfWolf, a drum/guitar duo performing their unique style of garage punk blues trash.

WolfWolf, out of pandemic boredom, have enlisted a few musicians to re-record a few songs. With trumpet, trombone, banjo and bass the raw 2-man songs were embellished and rearranged. The result: Garage Punk Del Muerte Vampire Trash Jazz.

The Tuzemak Orchestra sounds exactly like the way Czech rum drinks: Mr. Aregger of Blind Butcher, Mr. Barmettler of Al-Berto & The Fried Bikinis, Mr. Blättler and Mr. Petermann of Fischermanns Orchestra wash it down with vampire blood, a squeezed lime and secret jazz chords.

This stuff kicks ass, I already feel all Tuzemak! WolfWolf, that's Mister Wolf (drums) and Mister Wolf (guitar) on a Balkan trip through punk with trash amp and Mexican Muerte mixer.

Swiss Jazz Days

The Swiss Jazz Days are the networking event for the jazz scene in Switzerland

Founded in 2021 as a reaction to the cultural crisis during the pandemic, Simon Petermann runs this project together with Bernese entrepreneur Chris Jenny

The exponents of the Swiss jazz scene are allies and together they form a national community of interest.

They work together on the social perception and the international reception of Swiss jazz.

Mission

The various players in the Swiss jazz scene regularly exchange on current topics relating to the music industry.

The different exponents from different regions work on common projects in jazz music.

Action

The Swiss jazz scene meets once a year for an interactive congress.

Together, we work on projects relevant to the national scene. With a united voice, we participate in the social and cultural discourse about our community.
